The Centre for Journalism and Mass Communication (CJMC), Vidya Bhavana, Visva-Bharati, in collaboration with the Department of Lifelong Learning & Extension (Rural Extension Centre), PSV, Visva-Bharati, and Santi Trust, Andrewspally, Santiniketan, organised a five-day Digital Literacy Training Programme at Srichandrapur village, Kasba Gram Panchayat, Birbhum, West Bengal, from 18 to 22 May 2026. The programme was held as part of “Promoting Literacy in Digital Era” under the Visva-Bharati Adarsha Gram Initiative and witnessed the participation of 55 rural community members from varied age groups, literacy levels and digital backgrounds. The outreach programme focused on need-based mobile phone use, safe digital communication, internet use, e-governance services, online payment safety, cybersecurity, scam detection and access to education, health, agricultural and welfare-related information through digital platforms. The sessions adopted an inclusive and practical approach through demonstrations, hands-on exercises, peer learning and repeated practice. A significant outcome of the programme was the identification of ‘Local Digital Champions’ from within the community, with the aim of encouraging continued digital support and awareness at the village level. Through this initiative, Visva-Bharati reaffirmed its commitment to community engagement, rural outreach, digital empowerment and inclusive learning in keeping with its larger social responsibility. #VisvaBharati #DigitalIndia #DigitalLiteracy #AdarshaGramInitiative #CommunityOutreach #RuralEmpowerment #CyberSafety #DigitalAwareness #GovernmentOfIndia
