The Department of Agricultural Engineering, Palli Siksha Bhavana (Institute of Agriculture), Visva-Bharati, Sriniketan, organized an insightful invited lecture on “From Precision to Intelligence: The Future of Digital Agriculture” on 8 September 2026, as part of the activities preceding the celebration of Engineers’ Day. The programme was jointly coordinated by Dr. K. C. Swain, Head, and Dr. Manojit Chowdhury, Assistant Professor, Department of Agricultural Engineering. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Joydeep Mukherjee, Principal Scientist, Department of Agricultural Physics, ICAR–IARI, New Delhi. Dr. Mukherjee provided an in-depth overview of the transition from precision agriculture to intelligent and data-driven farming, covering remote sensing, drone and satellite-based crop monitoring, vegetation indices, nutrient stress detection, crop health assessment, soil status monitoring and AI/ML-enabled agricultural decision-making. He also highlighted the integration of artificial intelligence with remote sensing, along with variable-rate and target-based application technologies for efficient nutrient and crop management. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from around 40 participants including students and faculty members from diverse disciplines including Department of Agricultural Engineering, Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry, Agricultural Economics, Horticulture and Post Harvest Technology, Geography, Botany, and Computer & System Sciences. The lecture provided valuable insights into the future of smart, sustainable and technology-driven agriculture.
