6603-001 FRANKLIN patented surfacing plane. Patented by George Franklin of Natick, MA, for the specific purpose of truing up cobblers' die blocks. This version has a closed tote (a little loose) and a wooden fence with iron sole - most versions have an open tote and solid iron fence. 15" long, all original with chips to the tote edge; a serious hunk of iron and good example of an uncommon patented special purpose plane. 6603-002 Shoot board plane. Cast iron, 16" x 2" with offset integral iron handle. 1-1/2" Buck Bros. cutter, pitted, secured by cap iron with hand forged wingnut. Early and well made. Good+ (REW279) 100-200
6603-003 Bench plane. Unsigned. Resembles a British infill with a rosewood bun in the heel, but also has an unusual bulbous turned rosewood knob and an 1-3/4" Buck Bros. cutter. Cast iron body, 9-1/2" sole, separate cast iron frog pinned to sole. Big chunk out of mouth and some wear at heel. Unusual and early. Good (REW280) 100-200
