The Women’s Studies Centre of Vidya-Bhavana, Visva-Bharati successfully organized a tree-plantation programme on Thursday from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. as part of its observance of the World Environment Day 2026 theme. The event witnessed the gracious presence of the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Visva-Bharati, as the Chief Guest, along with the Principal, Vidya-Bhavana. Professors from various departments, research scholars, and students also participated enthusiastically in the programme. The programme aimed to raise awareness about climate change, environmental sustainability, and resilience through collective action and ecological responsibility. Insightful lectures were delivered by the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, the Principal, Vidya-Bhavana, and Dr. Tanusree Paul, Assistant Professor, Women’s Studies Centre, focusing on the urgent need for climate resilience in the present time, interconnection between climate change and gender, highlighting how environmental crises disproportionately affect women and marginalized communities. As a symbolic step towards environmental conservation, six different species of trees were planted during the programme. These included Bokul (Spanish Cherry), Fagun Bou (Copperpod/Yellow Flame Tree), Tej Pata (Indian Bay Leaf), Hijol (Barringtonia acutangula), and Kanthal (Jackfruit Tree), among others. The plantation drive reflected a shared commitment towards building a greener and more sustainable future. The programme concluded on a serene and soulful note with the rendition of Ashram Sangeet, creating an atmosphere of harmony, reflection, and collective responsibility towards nature and society.
