Almost two years ago I began a project to build a Cessna C172 fight simulator which you can see here https://photos.app.goo.gl/wrbDdynToTcisGAGA.
After completing the build, my son who is an accomplished gaming flight simulator enthusiast introduced me to the world of DCS combat flight simming.
Since I already had my X-Plane sim computer, I installed a new hard drive to house the DCS software and barrowed a VR headset instead of using the projectors of the C172 which would take time to configure for the DCS sim software. I also needed a desk to fly DCS, so I built a small desk out of PVC which worked very well. After flying both the F14 Tomcat and F18 Hornet for a period of time, I began to realized that being almost 60 years of age, my neck was not appreciative of the weight of the VR headset and all the head and neck movement that is required. So I started to consider alternatives.
Since the C172 sim was built on a bed frame and was movable I decided to add onto the back of the flooring to house the DCS sim. This would enable me to turn the frame around when I wanted to fly DCS or X-Plane.
This would turn into a new project and would then lead me to building a full control console including building Thrustmaster Cougar MFD's.
Below are photo's and comments documenting the process.
